Frightfully-fun stuff planned for Halloween at Hemingways Casino

Hemingways Casino is not letting Halloween slip by unnoticed and has arranged for some frightfully-excellent entertainment on the 29th and 30th of October to mark the occasion.
For the kids, there will be face painting and candle making. But best of all, there will be a Tunnel of Treats erected near the Algoa FM studio. Children can venture in, if they dare, for a “boo” or two and when they emerge on the other side, they will be given a little treat.

For the grown ups, there will be live entertainment on the casino floor with Rick Earth. He’ll entertain visitors from 5pm to 8pm on the Saturday, and between 6pm and 9pm on Sunday. In addition, the casino will be running an array of “not-so-scary” but rather enticing promotions and specials. Petrifying Pizza, Spooky Sausages, Cursed Curry and Boogeyman Burgers are just some of the mouth-watering delights on the special Halloween menu at Cuba Coffee Co and Casino floor

Halloween is an annual festival celebrated on the 31st of October. Although it’s largely a secular and commercial holiday, it actually has its roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holiday, All Saints’ Day.

Trick or treating, wearing gory and scary costumes, lighting bonfires, carving jack-o-lanterns and attending costume parties are just some of the ways that Halloween enthusiasts mark the occasion. In South Africa, Halloween has grown in popularity in recent years and it is becoming more common for people to dress up, join trick or treat marches in their neighbourhoods, and attend Halloween parties.

“Halloween is an enormously fun tradition that has gained momentum in South Africa in recent years. People enjoy the frivolity and fun that naturally comes with dressing up in strange and scary costumes and being somebody else just for one night.

“As East London’s premier entertainment destination, it’s only right that we create a little hype around Halloween,” says Neville Austin, Marketing Manager at Hemingways Casino.
