INTERNATIONAL CHEFS TO JET INTO EAST LONDON LATER THIS MONTH

Hemingways Casino will become a hive of culinary activity later this month when chefs participating in the Bidvest World Cooks Tour Against Hunger come to town. From 21 to 30 August, 260 chefs from over 43 countries will be arriving in South Africa to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the hungry. Some may not speak English, most have never set foot on African soil, but all share a passion for alleviating the suffering of the underprivileged.

Teams from Portugal, Slovenia, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya and the Emirates will be jetting into East London from 24 to 28 August to participate in the Chefs Without Borders culinary food festivals which will form part of the Hemingways Food and Wine Festival.

At the Hemingways hotel restaurant, guests will be able to sample lavish dishes from Portugal infused with a variety of spices. The restaurants at Hemingways will be participating in the festival and there will be celebrity appearances from some well known actors like Hlubi Mboya from Isidingo and Ashley Taylor to add to the festivities.

Italian Chef, Salvatore Silvestrino will be one of the chefs joining the Emirates Team, and describes himself as a spontaneous, passionate chef with great ambitions. “Being part of this tour is a true defining moment in my career as I am a great believer in giving something back in turn for all that I have gained from the hospitality industry. I am looking forward to bringing a smile, even the slightest smile to a child’s face. I feel so lucky to be able to do this tour as there are millions of people in the world that are less fortunate than I am… it is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.”

Proceeds raised during the Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger will be donated to assist a number of local charities.
